NIIT Technologies successfully launches CCTNS in Odisha

Strengthens engagement with Odisha Police Force for real-time crime and criminal information

Odisha, India, February 5, 2013, Tuesday:- NIIT Technologies Ltd. (NSE: NIIT Technologies), a leading global IT solutions organization announced the successful launch of the CCTNS project in Odisha. The project will reinforce the Indian Police in its modernization efforts by playing a significant role in the implementation of the ambitious Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS).

The implementation of first phase has started in Odisha in two pilot districts at 36 police stations and 11 higher offices. The project will help in linking 581 police stations, connecting 728 locations. With CCTNS in place, the project facilitates digitization of approximately 25 lac police records of last 10 years, and will train 28000 police personnel across the state to familiarize them with police workflow in a digitized environment. There will be a huge scope of improvement in the functioning of police to keep track of cases progress, and reduce manual and redundant records keeping.

Speaking on the successful implementation, Mr. Naveen Pattnaik, Chief Minister, Odisha, said, “Police officers must be trained so that they are able to take full advantage of the latest technologies for tracking criminals and bringing them to book”. “Full-scale implementation of the project would take place throughout the state by the end of the current calendar year”. With the CCTNS in place, there will be a huge scope of improvement in the functioning of police to keep track of cases progress, and reduce manual and redundant records keeping. In a year's time, the facility will be extended to all police stations in the state, said Mr. M Akshya, Director, State Crime Record Bureau.

Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) is a comprehensive and integrated system initiated by the Union government for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of policing in the country. The system has been designed to create a nationwide IT-enabled system to help the police investigate crime and detect criminals. CCTNS will connect and share real-time information and data on crime and criminals throughout the states and country thereby strengthening the information base of the investigating officers.
