Transformation of legacy cards and payment ecosystem for a Large European Bank
Overview.
The client, a major UK bank serving 14 million customers, grappled with legacy payment systems unable to meet evolving needs. Coforge stepped in to transform their global payments infrastructure, addressing complex challenges and achieving significant cost savings.
The bank had a legacy in-house Payments platform that was unable to meet the needs of its retail and corporate clients. The bank wanted to build a new global payments infrastructure: a single platform that would process payments regardless of currency, value, initiation method, settlement mechanism, or client geographic location. This would also help them to meet increasingly demanding data reporting requirements.
Solution.
Coforge, was appointed as the primary technology partner and undertook the following:
Legacy transformation – Migration of the legacy payments and core banking system with embedded payments functions that was on Mainframe-Cobol-CICS-DB2 tech stack, to a cloud-ready platform adopting a microservices-based distributed architecture. This included the migration of data from DB2 to the new Oracle Database.
Domestic payments & transfers for retail customers – We replaced the legacy mobile app to a modern app that was rolled out to multiple countries. The modern app contained complex features which included payments to existing payees, view & add payee, confirmation of payee, transfer money between customer’s own accounts, payment through mobile number, standing orders & direct debit, future dated payments, etc.
Corporate internet banking upgrade – We implemented new corporate internet banking modules like international payments, global liquidity management, and online document view
Card management – We undertook development, maintenance, and 24x7 support of the bank’s new system for card transaction authorization and clearing system with a capacity to handle around 7.5 million transactions daily
Mobile banking – Coforge’s 80+ member team is currently engaged in supporting the bank’s existing mobile banking application. The team is responsible for API building to integrate the mobile app with the card management system to fetch required details such as transaction lists, balance info, etc
Network migration of debit cards (Visa to Mastercard) – We successfully migrated the debit cards of over 10 million cardholders from the Visa to the MasterCard network, without any hitch.
