Leading Middle Eastern Airline Moved to Cloud-based Data Platform Achieving 27% Faster Time to Market
Overview.
Our client, a leading Middle East airline, aimed to transport their Big Data and Enterprise Data Warehouse to Azure cloud. The airline company partnered with Coforge to overcome significant architectural challenges on its journey towards data modernization. We built an agile cloud-based data platform that can enhance the operational agility, customer experience, and decision-making process of our clients.
The airline wanted to modernize its data to facilitate transformations, reporting, what-if analysis, customer intelligence, and ad-hoc analysis across various divisions including Operations, Customers, Cargo, and Shared Services (HR, Finance). However, migrating large volumes of sensitive data to the cloud posed challenges in respect of security and data transfer.
Solution.
Drawing the Blueprint Coforge mapped out a strategic roadmap to shift data from an on-premises to a cloud-based platform, covering the entire lifecycle from data assimilation to data analysis.
Team Building To translate the plan into action, we built an agile team of 70 professionals working in multiple squads, specialized in Hadoop, Spark, Scala, Python, Azure Data, Snowflake, MicroStrategy, Power BI, and Data Testing.
Adhering to the roadmap, we implemented the following solutions:
Data migration to the Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) - CDP is a hybrid data platform architected for unparalleled freedom to choose any data/cloud/analytics. It offered faster, easier and seamless data management and analytics with optimal scalability and security.
Transmitting On-premises Data Hub to the Cloud – It offered unlimited scalability for cloud data storage. This benefit enabled the airline to handle fluctuating data volumes.
Real-time Customer Transaction Data Streaming Using Kafka – Kafka is an open-source distributed event streaming platform to manage high-performance data pipelines.
Data Processing by Harnessing Spark - One of the fastest data processing engines. It processes real-time data from various sources which can be further shared to file systems, live dashboards, and different databases.
Advanced Analytics – Leveraged Snowflake (a scalable cloud data warehouse) for data transfer and report generation was done using MicroStrategy (An enterprise data warehouse analytics and reporting tool).
The Impact.
Data platform modernization resulted in faster TTM (Time to Market) and huge savings on the Data Analytics budget. It decentralized execution, and our dedicated department-wise squads improved the project roll-outs process. Facilitated connectivity between Commercial, Operations, Enterprise Data, and Middleware domains which led to a flexible team structure. Furthermore, cloud-based data migration improved capabilities of Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) and DevOps across e-commerce and Enterprise Data Streams.
